Blackjack hand signals
Tap the table to hit, wave your hand to stand, and put out a second bet to double or split. Casinos want the signal as well as the words.
Shoe games (cards dealt face up)
| Move | Signal |
|---|---|
| Hit | Tap the table behind your cards, or point at them. |
| Stand | Wave your hand flat, side to side, over your cards. |
| Double down | Put a second bet next to your first, not on top, and hold up one finger. |
| Split | Put a second bet next to your first and make a V with two fingers. |
| Surrender | Say "surrender" and draw a line behind your bet with your finger. |
Hand-held games (one or two decks, cards face down)
| Move | Signal |
|---|---|
| Hit | Scratch the edge of your cards toward you on the felt. |
| Stand | Slide your cards under your chips. |
| Double or split | Turn your cards face up and put out the second bet. |
Table etiquette
- Put cash on the table to buy chips. Dealers do not take anything from your hand.
- Bet before the deal, and leave your chips alone once the cards are out.
- In a shoe game, leave the cards on the felt.
- Stack chips with the biggest at the bottom.
- Many players tip the dealer by placing a small bet for them next to their own.
